Take a closer look.

It's nice to meet you, my name is Shayna McKinnon and I am a designer who focuses in research and interaction (in both digital and print domains). I also dabble in a bit of photography and value the challenges in creating those crafted moments in time.

I'm eager to show you what I've done and I encourage you to take a step back and to take a closer look.

Every decision is deliberate, patience is an understatement, and nothing is ever finished.

Book Series

The Universal Language

This book series includes two informational books about photography as well as an interactive journal for the user to try their hand at photography. The first book is about important vocabulary and the second book discusses six different types of photography. All images were taken by me.

Product/Interaction Branding

Film Junk.e

Film Junk.e is a movie renting platform that can be paired with a monthly subscription box. The subscription box sends a mystery movie based on the time of year and the users preferences.

User Experience

TriLine

TriLine is a multiline commuter train network that is aimed to serve the Triangle Area. Between several lines and convenient stations, the Triline will create a robust public transportation system for an area that lacks it.

Product Branding

Pendulum

Based in the future, Pendulum is a makeup brand with two identities. The change in setting will change the product completely - the moment it is put under black light it comes to life.

Print

When America Froze

A print design for a mock conference meeting about the events on September 11th, 2001. Includes stories from a survivor and the architect who built the One World Trade Center.

In a nutshell...

Education

I am a freshly graduated North Carolina State University student with a Bachelor of Graphic Design.

History

Initially I found a spark in the "pretty" part of the design field but over a few years, developed a love for the meaning, research, and experimentation behind each decision.

Values

Patience and experimentation are two very large parts of my process; without those two things, a concept cannot be fully pushed to what it could be.
